Mike's family comes from many generations of fishermen. When Cancun became a tourist destination, his family eventually entered the snorkeling and fishing business.
When you fish with Mike, it becomes obvious very quickly that he knows exactly what he is doing.
I am not a fisherman. It is just not my thing. However, I wanted to experience Mike's fishing trip for myself.
After Mike found one of his favorite spots, he grabbed a hook and fishing line. No fishing pole was used. He simply wore gloves and worked the line by hand.
Within seconds, a small fish was caught and placed into a bucket of water. Then, he repeated the process.
Within minutes, his bucket was filled with live bait.
That is when the fishing poles came out.
A live fish was placed on each line. Within minutes, we were catching barracuda. Other species were caught throughout the trip, including some very unique-looking fish. Our catches ranged from only a few pounds to around 12 pounds.
I had never seen anything like it.
Even though fishing is not normally my thing, watching Mike work made the experience fascinating.
