
Road Construction Near Cancun Airport Finished Two Months Ahead of Schedule

Cancun International Airport has officially completed the new airport junction.
On September 3, 2023, the Mexican government inaugurated two road construction projects in Cancun. Mexico President Andrés Manuel Lopez Obrador directed the ceremony. He stated that the reconstruction of Luis Donaldo Colosio Boulevard and the Airport junction were completed today, two months ahead of schedule.
These projects are part of an integral program of strategic projects in Cancun, which includes three other works.
Jorge Nuño Lara, the Secretary of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transport, confirmed that the investment exceeded 1,500 million pesos. Over 20 million tourists annually and 1.3 million inhabitants’ benefit from this. These new roads reduce travel time and logistic costs, stimulating the local economy and promoting tourism development.
Nuño Lara expressed gratitude. He attributing the successful completion in record time to the dedicated efforts of his team. Additionally to the commitment of the road construction companies.
The completed project achieved the goal of expanding, maintaining, and constructing modern land and air connectivity routes. This ensures access to goods and services for the entire population.

Boulevard Luis Donaldo Colosio
He mentioned that on Boulevard Luis Donaldo Colosio, rehabilitation work and additional enhancements covered a total length of 13.3 kilometers, over 8 miles, between the Airport and Colosio interchanges, requiring an investment of 1,115 million pesos or in other words over 64,773,600 US Dollars. This project, enhances the connectivity between the International Airport and Cancún. It created 1,628 direct and 6,511 indirect jobs.
The road construction included new safety features to the Boulevard Luis Donaldo Colosio. Including new pedestrian bridges and traffic lights.
Traffic Issues Resolved
Now that the construction is completed, the new cloverleaf is a huge step towards resolving the increased traffic issues. During the last year, the road construction lead to many tourists booking their last night in Cancun at a hotel near the airport to avoid the hassle of trying to get to the airport on time.

The head of the SICT praised the professional and dedicated work of the engineers, residents, machinery operators, and builders who marked the pace of work with unwavering determination.
The SICT works closely with the Government of Mexico, standing as its first line of battle to achieve the long-awaited well-being of Mexicans, he emphasized.
Additionally, there are plans to complete three more projects: the Vehicle Bridge over the Nichupte Lagoon, the Chac Mool roadway, and the road connecting Cancun Airport with the Maya Train Station.
