Does Cancun have electric service?
It may sound like a silly question to ask, but sometimes there are things that happen in Mexico that are out of our control. Electric is one of these things.
While in Cancun you will notice that their electricity is very different than that in the United States. Quality problems with the electricity is common.
The power plugs in our vacation rental properties are type A and type B. It is a good idea to bring with you a pack of 3 to 2 prong adapters in case the type B sockets are not available in the unit.
The most common problems that I have witnessed are:
- voltage surges
- transient voltage spikes & voltage drops
- rapid ON/OFF cycling
Fortunately there are things that we can do to help protect our computers, cell phones and other small electronics. It is a very good idea to pack a quality Power Strip with Surge Protectors for when you are charging your devices.
If having access to electric is critical for you while on vacation we highly recommend that you pack an Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) system.
