Our Day of “The Dad”
Every April, my sisters and I try to get together and make time for our dad.
Our father passed away on April 19, 1999. He was 52 years old. TOO SOON.
My sister Leah calls our yearly gathering Day of “The Dad.” She tries to get all three sisters together around April 19th. Each year, something different is planned around one of his interests.
Our father LOVED golfing. So, in April 2022, we took that tradition to Iberostar Cancun Golf Club.
Leah lives in Tulum. For my sister Korrina, it was her first time in Cancun.
A golf cart, a camera, and my sisters
Six months earlier, in October 2021, I had a stroke. So, walking was still very difficult for me when we gathered that April. I wanted to play. I tried very hard, but I could not even lift the club and swing.
Instead, I sat in the golf cart and took pictures of the day.
Getting out on the course was huge for me.
There was so much to photograph. Palm trees lined the paths. Water bordered the grass, and white clouds filled the blue sky.
Then there were my sisters, making their way around the course.
Leah is easy to spot in her white hat. Korrina is wearing the black skirt and pink floral top.
One photograph shows them walking together beneath the palms, with the golf cart parked nearby - I don't think we ever found that ball.
Those are the moments I brought home from the course. My sisters playing a game our father loved, while I was there to photograph them.
Oh the memories
I can just hear my Dad giggling as Leah swings. I know he would be so proud of her.
She may have missed the ball, twice, but look at the cutest little jump up and down. Oh the memories.
It still makes me smile. Even a cloudy day in Cancun it a perfect day. Having my sisters together and playing the game my Dad loved. It don't get no better than that.
I am so glad I was there to capture it. Even years later I enjoy it all over again.

And yes, Leah got a birdie!
For anyone who does not golf, a birdie means finishing a hole one stroke under par.

The warning sign had company
Golfers were not the only ones on the course that day.
One photograph deserves a second look.
A sign warns visitors about crocodiles. Just to its left, a crocodile is visible in the water along the far bank.
Apparently, the sign came with a demonstration.
That is one course warning worth taking seriously. Keep away from the water’s edge and mangroves, and follow staff instructions.
Three sisters, one beautiful day
My favorite part of this collection is seeing all three of us together.
Behind those smiles is the reason we were there: our father, his love of golf, and Leah’s yearly effort to reunite us.

Golf in Cancun’s Hotel Zone
Iberostar Cancun Golf Club is located along Boulevard Kukulcán, near Nichupté Lagoon. The 18-hole, par-72 course is surrounded by tropical vegetation and mangroves.
According to Iberostar, the course measures 6,735 yards. Approximately four and a half hours should be allowed for a round.
That means a little planning is needed. Leave additional time for transportation, check-in, and warming up before your tee time.
What is included with your round?
Through Golf Mexico Tee Times, the following inclusions are listed:
- Golf cart rental
- Range balls
- Snacks and drinks on the course
However, your exact inclusions should be confirmed with your selected rate. Club rentals should also be requested separately when booking.

The starting price deserves a closer look before your golf budget is planned.
Is transportation available?
Iberostar lists complimentary return transportation within Cancun’s Hotel Zone for a minimum of two people.
However, pickup arrangements should be confirmed directly for your accommodation. Golf Mexico Tee Times also publishes accommodation restrictions for bookings through its service.
When staying at Tim’s Ocean Condos, provide your property name and address when requesting transportation. A pickup should only be considered arranged after confirmation is received.
